A child’s game of hide and seek
We often played.

Seeking to know the others’ thoughts
While holding back our own.
I often asked “Lay bare your inmost soul

To me.”
Yet failed to yield myself
To you.

My friend of many years, and I,
Ceased to play the game
Of hide and seek,
Our souls entwined.
