The current crisis finds people working in creative ways.
Besides all the wonderful support the Marquette staff is providing to the residents, I have learned about an interesting approach that was used when Rolling Meadows High School had to cancel their West Side Story choir performance. The choir performance had been planned for weeks and the students had practiced for weeks. The students were quite upset, especially the seniors who are anticipating that other end of the year activities will be cancelled.
One student crafted an approach using editing apps and had each music student send him a video of their singing their part in the song “Somewhere”. He combined all the videos to make a collage of each student in their own home singing the West Side Story song “Somewhere”. He then put this on Facebook so we can all see and hear it.
There’s a place for us,
Somewhere a place for us.
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere.
There’s a time for us,
Some day a time for us,
Time together with time to spare,
Time to learn, time to care,
Some day!
Somewhere.
We’ll find a new way of living,
We’ll find a way of forgiving
Somewhere…
There’s a place for us,
A time and a place for us.
Hold my hand and we’re halfway there.
Hold my hand and I’ll take you there
Somehow,
Some day,
Somewhere!
Thanks to the Rolling Meadows Choir for making our day a special one. They are planning to contribute more songs soon.
If anyone else hears of wonderful ways that people are coping with the reality of today, let us know. We’d love to hear the stories.
