A lament.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who swept me off my feet.
The man who made me feel secure.
The man who listened to all my concerns.
The man who wiped away my tears.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who touched me tenderly and kissed me with such love and care.
The man who helped me discover me.
The man who loved me through my low points.
The man who held me tight and shared my pain when we lost our baby.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who let me share in his sorrows.
The man who knew we would reach our tomorrows.
The young handsome man who said I DO.
The man who loved me when I said I DO.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who supported me through school.
The man who let me support him through school.
The man who gave me a baby girl to fill my arms.
The man who listened to all my strife.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who taught me to let things go.
The man who shared my cancer scare.
The man who cried tears of relief when it was gone.
The man who shared my love of Christ.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who handed me keys to drive our new car home.
The man who cried when I was safe from the storm.
The man who led me around the mid-west.
The man who brought me home when the time was best.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who shared a business with me.
The man who played with our grand children
The man who found so much joy in our daughter.
The man who would swing with me at the lake.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who would take youth on trips.
The man who went with me on a trip on a ship.
The man who would help me clean the house.
The man who climbed a tree to top it to see me smile.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who took Darycka swimming each day all summer long.
The man who would cook our meals on the grill.
The man who would drive hours so we could see family and friends.
The man who would play the piano for hours for me.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who would get frustrated with me then make us laugh.
The man who knew the math tricks to solve my math errors.
The man who laughed hysterically at the thought of my singing in public.
The man who then encouraged me to sing when the Spirit changed my voice.

WHERE HAS HE GONE?
The man who played games with me for hours on end.
The man who would come find me when I’d hide in the house.
The man who would chase down the bats in our homes.
The man who prayed away the ghost in our house.

  1. This is about my husband who now has dementia. He is no longer the man he has been in our past. We take one day at a time and enjoy what we can of the day together. For those going through this treasure the good memories of the past. Dawn White
